NEMO Science Museum is a hands-on science attraction at Oosterdok 2 in Amsterdam. If you are staying with us at White Tulip Hostel, plan your museum ticket and journey separately from your accommodation. NEMO uses tickets with a start time; its rooftop square has separate, free access.
The retained illustration dates from 2024 and is not a photograph of the museum. Use the updated visitor information below.
What can you do at NEMO?
The museum’s current programme lists Fenomena, Technium, Elementa and Humania. These cover natural phenomena, everyday technology, the universe and human beings. The programme also lists Game On, an exhibition about video games and their role in our lives.
For activities, look for the Laboratory, Chain Reaction demonstration and Maker Space. Check the programme for your date rather than assuming every activity runs continuously. Choosing a few priorities before you arrive can help your group spend time on the subjects you enjoy most.
How much do museum tickets cost?
When checked on 12 September 2026, the official NEMO ticket shop listed the following prices. Check the final options for your visit before paying.
| Ticket category | Listed price |
|---|---|
| Age 4 and over, standard ticket | €21.50 |
| Age 0–3 | €0 |
| Eligible university or college student with student card | €14 |
Two standard tickets would total €43 before any extras. Visitors using an eligible admission or discount card still need a ticket, and the card is checked at entry. Bring the required proof. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult; a visitor aged 13–17 cannot supervise younger children.
Book through NEMO’s ticket shop. Our accommodation code HOSTELAMSTERDAM does not establish a NEMO ticket discount.
When is NEMO open?
NEMO’s visitor FAQ gives Tuesday–Sunday, 10:00–17:30, with additional Monday opening during April–September, school holidays and public holidays. Check the date-specific visitor information before booking, particularly for a Monday visit.
The museum suggests that weekdays after 14:00 are often less busy. This is guidance rather than a guarantee. Your chosen start time and the museum’s closing time determine how much time you will have inside.
Can you visit the roof without a museum ticket?
Yes. NEMO’s Rooftop Square page lists free access, Tuesday–Sunday from 10:00 to 17:30, using the stairs on the east side. The current roof is a green city square with views, places to eat and drink, and activities involving nature and technology.
Check the roof’s own opening information; do not assume every museum opening exception also applies to free roof access. Food and drinks are separate purchases. The older article’s Energetica description and promised stargazing events are not a current event schedule.
How do you plan the journey and handle luggage?
Use Oosterdok 2, 1011 VX Amsterdam as the museum destination, starting from our hostel at Warmoesstraat 87. Check a current walking or public-transport route for your departure time. We have removed the unverified fixed ten-minute bus journey and bus-stop advice from the earlier text.
NEMO’s FAQ says its small lockers use a 50-cent coin or NEMO coin, and it cannot store suitcases. If your visit is on departure day, arrange luggage storage before going to the museum. Our luggage information explains the hostel’s arrangements; do not assume you can leave bags with us after checkout.
What if you need accessible facilities?
NEMO’s accessibility page describes lifts serving the museum levels. Parts of the roof are accessible by lift, but its central section is a large staircase. Read the specific route information or contact the museum about your needs before visiting. Museum accessibility does not establish accessibility at our hostel.
