Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam: Modern Art Guide

The Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam offers modern and contemporary art and design, with a changing exhibition programme. Before travelling from our hostel, check which exhibitions your ticket includes. The current Yayoi Kusama exhibition has a separate start time and surcharge; general museum admission alone does not establish access to that exhibition.

What is on at the Stedelijk?

The official programme, checked on 12 September 2026, lists Yayoi Kusama from 11 September 2026 to 17 January 2027. It also lists the ongoing collection presentation, with more than 500 works from 1870 to the present.

Other listed exhibitions include Kho Liang Ie: Mid-Century Modernist until 18 October 2026, and Experimental Jetset: Circuits until 17 September 2026. Check the programme for your own travel dates: a named exhibition may have ended before your stay. The older article’s 2025 list is not a current schedule.

How much should you budget?

The general visitor page lists adults at €22.50 and students/CJP at €12.50. Visitors under 19 have free general admission. Check the eligibility conditions for any pass or reduced ticket you use.

For Kusama, the official surcharge page adds €10 for adults, Museumkaart and I amsterdam City Card holders. Students/CJP pay a reduced €5 supplement. Visitors aged 18 and under are exempt; other exemptions are listed on the museum’s page.

Example visitor General admission Kusama supplement Combined total
Adult without a pass €22.50 €10 €32.50
Eligible student/CJP €12.50 €5 €17.50
Museumkaart holder €0 €10 €10

These examples use the published rates checked on 12 September 2026. Confirm the final ticket price and bring the relevant card. Two adults without passes would pay €65 for admission including Kusama, before any extras.

Which start time and opening hours apply?

The museum currently lists daily opening from 10:00 to 18:00, with no entrance after 17:45. The old claim of routine extended Friday hours is not supported by that schedule. Recheck the visitor page for any special arrangements before going.

The Kusama ticket page says your start time is the time to enter the exhibition. You can visit the rest of the museum at another time on the same day. The surcharge is valid for one exhibition visit on the selected date and time. Do not assume that a general museum time slot also reserves Kusama.

How can you plan a useful art visit?

Choose your main priority before buying: the collection, a particular exhibition or a scheduled activity. Allow for travel, entry and a break rather than filling the whole day with back-to-back bookings. If an artist is the reason for your visit, check the relevant exhibition page instead of relying on an old list of collection names.

Groups should use the museum’s group-visit or guided-tour options linked from its visitor page. Confirm the language, group size and inclusions. We have not verified the earlier article’s promise of exclusive direct-booking vouchers or priority access.

What about bags and access needs?

The museum permits handbags up to A4 size in galleries. Backpacks and weekend cases must go in lockers. If you have a large suitcase or specific mobility requirements, check with the museum before travelling; do not assume a locker will fit every bag.

For a visit after checking out of our hostel, arrange luggage separately. Our luggage information explains that we do not provide storage after checkout. Museum facilities and accommodation facilities are separate arrangements.

Planning from White Tulip Hostel

Our address is Warmoesstraat 87. Use the museum’s address and route page and live directions for your journey. The older tram advice and a fixed 35-minute walk through Vondelpark are not verified directions from our door.

For accommodation, check Cloudbeds using the confirmed code HOSTELAMSTERDAM. It does not establish a museum ticket discount. Contact us separately for questions about your stay.

Earlier media

The existing video and original PDF brochure contain earlier exhibition information. They are retained for reference, not as the current programme or confirmation of ticket savings. Use the museum’s live programme and ticket conditions above.
