Planning a visit to Royal Theater Carré from our hostel? Start with the exact performance, then choose your seat and plan your arrival at Amstel 115–125. We recommend checking the language, final ticket price and access arrangements before paying. A previous season’s list of performers is not a reliable guide to what you can book now.

Choose the performance before choosing the ticket
Use the official Carré agenda for your travel dates. Open the individual event rather than assuming that a named artist in an older guide is still appearing. For an international visitor, the most useful checks are:
- Language: check spoken and sung language, and whether surtitles are offered for that production. An English event title does not establish either.
- Timing: note the performance date, start time, running time and whether there is an interval. Plan dinner around the show, not the other way round.
- Your seat: compare the seating plan and any restricted-view notes. The cheapest available seat may not be your preferred experience.
- Total cost: review the final booking total and conditions before payment. Do not budget around an unverified City Card upgrade or generic discount voucher.
For two travellers comparing options, write down the total for both seats plus transport and dinner. This makes a matinee and an evening show easier to compare without pretending every performance has the same price.
Getting from White Tulip to Carré
Carré’s address is Amstel 115–125, 1018 EM Amsterdam. Its official directions list metro lines 51, 53 and 54 from Amsterdam Centraal to Weesperplein. From that station, the theatre gives an approximate walk of 450 metres or six minutes; follow the Stadstimmertuin/Carré signs.
From our hostel at Warmoesstraat 87, first allow time to reach Centraal. That station-to-theatre walking estimate is not the whole journey from our front door. Alternatively, plan a walk directly to Carré using your own pace and allow for crossings. We no longer recommend the old guide’s fixed 20-minute walk or tram 24 shortcut.
Check the GVB journey planner on the day, including the trip back after the performance. Leave a buffer for disruptions and finding your entrance.
Arriving late and keeping your ticket ready
According to Carré’s general visitor information, a valid ticket is required for entry and a digital ticket can be shown on your phone. The box office opens 45 minutes before performances and is closed on days without a performance.
Late admission is not guaranteed: staff may wait for a suitable moment, and the artist’s requirements can prevent entry after the start. Our practical advice is to have your ticket ready and arrive with time to spare. Check the instructions attached to your own booking for any special ticket procedure.
Accessibility: arrange the right place before booking
Carré’s historic building has narrow passages, steps and stairs, so discuss your specific requirements rather than selecting an ordinary seat and assuming the route will work. Wheelchair spaces depend on the performance layout. Contact service@carre.nl or +31 20 524 9453 to arrange them, and give your wheelchair dimensions; Carré specifically asks visitors to mention widths above 72 cm.

Returning to our hostel after the show
We have 24-hour reception and no curfew, so an evening performance can fit into your stay. If this is your arrival day and you will be later than the arrival time you supplied, contact us rather than assuming your bed will be held indefinitely. Our booking terms explain the late-arrival conditions.
