Quick answer: Choose a booked brewery tour if you want to see how beer is made, or a central beer café if you mainly want to compare styles. Brouwerij ’t IJ and Oedipus publish specific tour times and prices. De Prael, Arendsnest and In De Wildeman offer other central stops. This is our planning guide, not a brewery-tour package sold by our hostel.

Brouwerij ’t IJ: a short introduction to brewing
The official tour page describes a visit to the brewery by the windmill on Funenkade. Groups are limited to 20. You can register at the bar on the day or use the reservation option. An additional English tour at 15:30 may be added when demand warrants it; do not plan around that extra departure without confirmation.
The page describes brewing ingredients and brewery history, but does not state that the €2.50 ticket includes a tasting flight. Budget for drinks separately unless the booking explicitly includes them. For two people, the published tour admission totals €5.
Private tours are also available by enquiry. Ask the brewery tour team about price, timing and access needs. Its other cafés and tasting rooms are not automatically the meeting point for this tour.
Oedipus: a longer tour with tastings
The Oedipus tour page includes three tastings in its €19.95 price. It allows up to 20 guests on a tour but a maximum of eight per booking. For a larger party, ask Oedipus directly how to arrange the visit. Two tickets at the published rate total €39.90.
The brewery’s Craft Space information gives the address as Schaafstraat 21 in Noord. The taproom is closed Monday and Tuesday; Wednesday and Thursday hours are 16:00–22:30, Friday 16:00–00:30, Saturday 14:00–00:30 and Sunday 14:00–21:30. The kitchen has separate hours. A table reservation does not replace a brewery-tour booking.
Central beer stops near our hostel
If you prefer to stay around the historic centre, these venues let you build a shorter outing without crossing between Noord and east Amsterdam:
- De Prael Amsterdam: the current website lists its Amsterdam brewery and tasting room at Oudezijds Armsteeg 26. Use its Amsterdam reservation or arrangements page; the same website also covers Den Haag.
- Arendsnest: a Dutch beer bar at Herengracht 90, rather than a brewery-production tour. Its published hours are Sunday–Thursday 12:00–00:00 and Friday–Saturday 12:00–01:00.
- In De Wildeman: a beer café in a former distillery at Kolksteeg 3. Its selection includes Dutch, Belgian and other international beers. It opens Monday–Thursday 12:00–00:00 and Friday–Saturday 12:00–01:00; Sunday is closed.
Check each venue’s current list before choosing a particular beer. A named brewery on a café menu does not mean its production equipment is on the premises. For an organised tasting, confirm the number and size of samples, food, duration and minimum group size with the venue.
Choose one area and leave time between stops
We suggest choosing either a central café outing, the Funenkade brewery visit, or Oedipus in Noord as your main activity. Trying to fit every venue into one afternoon adds travel and can turn a tasting visit into a rush.

Keep transport, food and extra drinks separate from the ticket price when comparing options. Plan a walking or public-transport return if drinking, and ask about alcohol-free alternatives for anyone who prefers them.
Our old guide’s generic promises of nine tastings, included meals, fixed group sizes and priority access are not terms of a specific confirmed tour. Read the chosen operator’s booking details instead of assuming every experience includes the same extras.

Our booking terms confirm 24-hour reception and no curfew. Check-out is at 10:00 and we do not provide luggage storage after check-out. Arrange another luggage option before a departure-day brewery visit.
