Quick answer: We suggest choosing between Paradiso and Melkweg by the artist and event, then checking the exact venue, ticket format, membership and age rule. Both are options for a night out from our hostel. A ticket sold by Paradiso does not always mean a show in its main building, while Melkweg currently requires mobile tickets with a live barcode rather than a screenshot.

Paradiso’s main building is a former church near Leidseplein. Its wider programme includes locations such as Tolhuistuin across the IJ. Melkweg has multiple rooms, so two events on the same evening need not share an entrance or running order. Use the artist, date and room on your booking to identify the right event.
Membership costs and ticket budgeting
According to Paradiso’s membership information and its ticket FAQ, monthly membership costs €4.50 and annual membership €9.50. The monthly period starts when first scanned. Club nights and events outside the main building include one-day membership in the ticket price. Check what your specific ticket requires before adding another membership.
Melkweg’s visitor information lists monthly membership at €4.50, already included in the ticket when applicable. You can reuse a valid membership code during a later booking within its validity period. Annual membership is €25. These are separate organisations: do not assume one venue’s membership covers the other.
For your evening budget, compare the final ticket total, any required membership, transport and storage. An annual membership does not generally replace a concert ticket. We recommend checking the final checkout summary instead of adding fees from an old guide to a price that may already include them.
Buying and showing your ticket
Start from the event page on the venue’s own website. Paradiso identifies its own waiting list and TicketSwap as supported resale routes; Melkweg directs visitors to Ticketmaster’s official Transfer and Resale tools. Follow the options offered for your event rather than buying a screenshot from an unknown seller.
Under Melkweg’s mobile-ticket rules, you need the valid barcode with moving animation in your Ticketmaster account. Screenshots are not accepted. Open the ticket before leaving our hostel, charge your phone and check that each friend can access their own admission. Melkweg also explains how to add tickets to your phone’s wallet.
Age limits, doors and the start of the concert
Paradiso concerts normally have no minimum age unless the event says otherwise; club nights generally require 18+. Its house rules require identification for age-restricted events. Melkweg normally applies 6+ to concerts and films, advises adult accompaniment for visitors aged 14 or younger, and generally sets club nights at 18+. The individual event page can specify a different restriction.
Melkweg’s listed calendar start time means doors open. Look for the fuller timetable to distinguish entry, support act and headline performance. At either venue, check the running order before arranging dinner or a return journey. A concert is not guaranteed to finish at a fixed time, and a late club night needs a different transport plan from an early show.
Bags, lockers and accessibility
Paradiso’s FAQ lists lockers at €3.50, €4.50 and €6.50 depending on size. Suitcases and large travel backpacks are not allowed; small bags should be stored rather than taken into the main hall. Paradiso accepts debit and credit cards, but not American Express.
Melkweg lists medium lockers at €4 and large lockers at €7.50. Rental uses a QR code, with staff assistance available at the service desk. Do not assume a venue locker can accommodate your travel luggage. Bring only what you need for the show and check dimensions if carrying a larger bag.
If you need step-free access, a seat or assistance, ask the venue about your exact room before buying. Arrangements vary by building and hall. That is especially important for an event sold through a venue’s website but held at another location. Earplugs are also a practical item to pack for your evening.

Use current walking or public-transport directions; the previous short walking estimates and tram suggestions should not be treated as a reliable timetable. Allow time for queues, ticket scanning and storing a coat.
Our booking terms confirm 24-hour reception and no curfew. Check-out is at 10:00, and we do not store luggage after check-out. Arrange separate luggage storage if you plan to attend a concert on departure day. If your arrival is delayed, contact us: beds are held for two hours after the arrival time you supplied.
