Quick answer: Canal SUP Amsterdam’s official website still announces that the business is closed. We checked this in September 2026. Do not travel to an old meeting point or rely on its remaining booking buttons. For another paddleboarding outing, check a current operator’s location and availability: beach-based SUP and an Amsterdam canal tour are different activities.

Is Canal SUP Amsterdam still open?
The official Canal SUP homepage says the business has closed. It also points visitors towards De Hangout near Amsterdam for events. That is not an announcement that its former Amsterdam canal paddleboarding service has restarted.
Older route pages, addresses and booking elements remain visible. Their presence does not override the closure notice. If you already hold an old booking or voucher, use your original confirmation to ask the operator about your specific case; we cannot confirm whether a refund, replacement or another arrangement is available.
An alternative to investigate at IJburg
Surfcenter IJburg currently lists SUP rental alongside windsurfing and wingfoiling. Its address is Pampuslaan 517, 1087 HP Amsterdam, at the end of the IJburg beach. This is a different operator and setting, not a replacement departure point for Canal SUP.
Its rental page says rental reservations are not possible. Ask about SUP availability, the day’s opening and conditions before making the journey. The page’s €25-per-hour complete-set price is explicitly for windsurfing; we have not established a dedicated SUP rate from that page. Ask for the SUP price, duration and included equipment rather than using the windsurfing figure as your budget.
For a group, first establish whether enough boards and any needed instruction will be available. An enquiry is not a reservation or a guarantee of equipment. Plan a backup outing if the wind, stock or opening arrangements do not suit your day.
Beach facilities and water conditions
The municipality’s Strand IJburg page lists watersports lessons among the beach activities. It gives 1 May–30 September as the period for beach supervision and toilet opening. Do not assume those facilities or supervision continue throughout winter. Beach supervision also does not mean that an independent SUP rental includes your own guide.
Check current conditions with the operator before going on the water. Ask where you may paddle, how you return to shore, what swimming ability is required and which safety equipment is supplied. Explain your experience level and ask whether instruction is needed. A rental offer alone does not establish that a route is suitable for a first attempt.
Choosing a canal tour instead
If your main aim is to see canal houses from the water, choose a provider that explicitly confirms a current canal itinerary. Check the exact meeting point, whether a guide accompanies you, the total outing time and what happens if weather causes a cancellation. A photograph of canal houses is not evidence that a particular route is offered today.
We suggest comparing these items before payment:
- Activity: guided tour, introductory lesson or independent rental.
- Location: a specific canal route, beach or other body of water.
- Price: total for your party and duration, including any equipment charges or deposit.
- Participation: swimming ability, ages, experience and any access requirements.
- Changes: the operator’s weather decision, cancellation terms and how you will be notified.
For a bookable tour, keep the confirmation and arrival instructions. For walk-in rental, verify the walk-in arrangement and avoid treating an opening-hours listing as a reserved board.

Our booking terms confirm check-out at 10:00 and no luggage storage after check-out. Arrange another luggage option before a departure-day activity. Ask the watersports venue separately about storing valuables and changing facilities.
