The Torture Museum at Singel 449 is a small indoor stop for visitors interested in the history of punishment. From our White Tulip Hostel, we suggest planning it as one part of a city-centre walk. The museum presents objects, engravings and explanatory texts; do not book expecting the new interactive technology described in earlier versions of our guide.
Ticket prices: compare the final online total
We checked the museum’s website and linked ticket system on 12 September 2026. Its price list shows €9.50 for adults, €7.50 for students and €5 for children under 12. The official booking system displays the following amounts including service charges for the checked date.

Two adult online tickets therefore total €20.14 at those rates. Select your own date and check the final amount before paying. Another ordering page on the museum’s site displays lower figures, so use the current booking link from the main menu rather than assuming every published price is still applicable.
Opening hours and how long to spend
The museum advertises daily opening from 10:00 to 23:00. Its ticket description estimates approximately 20–35 minutes for a visit at your own pace. Allow longer if you want to read carefully; this is an estimate, not a fixed guided performance. If arriving near closing, confirm the latest entry time with the museum first.
Our practical suggestion is to leave a gap before your next timed booking. Walking to the museum, buying or showing tickets and reading the exhibits all add to the outing. An evening visit may fit your itinerary, but check the museum’s current notice before setting out.
What the exhibition contains
The museum’s collection description explains that it includes more than forty authentic and reconstructed punishment instruments, with historical explanations and engravings. Its scope extends from the Middle Ages to the French Revolution. Reconstruction should not be confused with proof that every object is an original artefact from the period it depicts.
The museum website says background information is available in eight languages. We have not confirmed the complete language list or any newly introduced interactive exhibition. Choose this visit for the displayed material and historical interpretation, rather than an assumed immersive show.
Guided visits and visiting with children
Guided visits require advance arrangements. The published price page asks for email reservations at least two weeks ahead and lists tours from €75 per group of six to fifteen people. Ask for a written total covering admission and guidance; do not assume the tour charge replaces admission or that a guide is included with an ordinary ticket.
The museum sells child tickets, but that does not establish that every child will find the subject comfortable. Its education page mentions teaching material for pupils from around ten years old. We recommend reviewing the subject matter with your group before booking.
