Yes, you can ask us for a bottom bunk, but it is a preference rather than a guarantee. Whether we can accommodate the request depends on your booked dorm and the bed allocation for your stay. Contact White Tulip Hostel reception as early as possible, especially if an upper bunk would not meet your access needs.

How do you request a bottom bunk?
Contact our reception with the name on the booking, your reservation reference and arrival and departure dates. State that you are requesting a lower bunk and whether this is a preference or an essential requirement.
A useful message is: “My booking reference is [your reference], for [your dates]. Could you check whether a bottom bunk is possible in my booked dorm? Please confirm what can be arranged.” Replace the bracketed details with your own information when contacting us.
Keep our reply with your booking confirmation. A submitted request or a note attached to a reservation is not, on its own, confirmation of a particular bunk.
What if you cannot use an upper bunk?
If a lower sleeping position is essential, speak to us before booking rather than relying on a preference being fulfilled at check-in. Explain the practical access you need; you do not need to include a medical diagnosis in an initial enquiry.
A lower bunk does not remove stairs elsewhere in the building. We do not have an elevator, and upper floors are reached by stairs. Check the route to the room and bathroom as well as the bed itself. Our lift and stair-access guide explains the questions to discuss with us.
Are there room types with single beds instead?
Our Cloudbeds room descriptions list a private twin with two single beds, a private triple with three single beds, and a five-person private ensuite with five single beds. These are different accommodation options from a dorm bed and may have different prices and availability.
Single beds do not automatically mean step-free accommodation. If you are considering changing your room type, check access, the full price and any change conditions with us before making a new reservation. See our private room comparison for the bed and bathroom layouts.
What should you do at check-in?
Remind reception about your request and show any reply you received. Confirm the assigned bed before unpacking. If it does not meet an essential requirement, speak to our team straight away so we can explain what options are available; do not assume a different bed or room can always be provided.
Ask reception before moving to another bunk or arranging a swap. Keeping the allocation clear helps avoid confusion with another guest’s booking.
Does booking directly guarantee a lower bunk?
No. A direct booking does not itself guarantee bunk position. You can use our discount code HOSTELAMSTERDAM when booking directly and check the resulting offer, but the code does not reserve a particular bed. Confirm any essential requirement separately before paying.
Video and PDF overview
The existing video gives a short explanation of the request process and the availability limit.
Our earlier PDF overview remains available. It summarises the same rule: a request is subject to availability, rather than a guarantee of a lower bunk.
