Do you need to reserve?
The official website invites smaller parties to walk in. Its reservation information says spring and summer reservations are only available for groups of 30 or more. A walk-in policy does not guarantee your preferred waterfront table or enough adjacent seats at a busy time.
For a larger group, send the date, time, headcount and whether you want drinks, dinner or a private celebration. Ask for the proposed seating, menu, deposit and cancellation conditions in writing before treating the arrangement as booked. We would also mention any access requirements at this stage.
Food prices and choosing the right menu
The current menu page links to separate food and drinks cards. The food card separates lunch, snacks and dinner, so check the section for the time you intend to eat.
On the dinner menu checked in September 2026, French onion soup is €9.50, fish and chips €21.50 and steak with fries €27.50. Soup followed by fish and chips would therefore cost €31 before drinks or extras. That is our arithmetic example using listed dishes, not a package offered by the restaurant.
Vegetarian and vegan choices appear on the menu, including a vegan cheeseburger. Ask staff about the dish and allergens before ordering. A dish described as vegetarian should not be assumed vegan, and a plant-based option does not establish how it is prepared alongside other food.
For a shorter visit, the venue’s FAQ confirms that you can come just for drinks. Decide whether you want a meal or snacks before setting your budget. We have not carried forward the old article’s claims of monthly menu changes or universally organic ingredients, as the current menu does not establish those promises.
Hannekes Boom or Hannekes Boot?
These names refer to different options. Hannekes Boot’s own explanation identifies Boom as the everyday restaurant and café, while the neighbouring boat is hired for private events and groups of 40–200 people.
If you have seen a photograph of a private party aboard the boat, do not assume that space is part of an ordinary restaurant visit. State which venue you mean when requesting an event quote. A capacity range is not confirmation that your date or preferred arrangement is available.
Getting there from our hostel
Use Warmoesstraat 87 as your starting point and Dijksgracht 4 as your destination. Hannekes Boom’s walking directions from Centraal follow Oosterdokskade to the Oosterdoksdraaibrug, then cross the water to the venue. Check the route on the day rather than relying on a fixed walking time.
The venue also lists tram 26 towards IJburg, getting off at Muziekgebouw aan het IJ. Check the live GVB journey planner for current stops and diversions. For a late return, check departure times separately from the bar’s closing time.
If travelling by taxi or with mobility requirements, agree on the drop-off point and final approach before leaving. A nearby stop or bridge does not establish step-free access to the table and toilets you need.
Arriving by boat or planning an event evening
Hannekes Boom’s FAQ allows guests to use its mooring spaces when they are not full. Treat this as conditional access, not a reserved berth. Ask ahead if your plans depend on arriving by boat, and do not assume that drinks will be delivered directly aboard.
For music or another activity, check the venue’s dated announcements before building your evening around it. The old article’s promises of several performances every week and a newly expanded terrace are not reliable substitutes for confirmation of what is happening on your visit date.
