The Royal Palace Amsterdam is the King’s official reception palace on Dam Square, open to visitors when the royal programme allows. Check the palace’s calendar before planning your visit from our hostel. A date in an old article, a third-party tour listing or a general opening-time claim is not confirmation that you can enter on your chosen day.

What can you see inside?
The official palace website describes a working reception palace used for state visits, receptions, dinners and award ceremonies. During public opening, visitors can explore its decorated interiors and historic halls. It is not presented as a tour of the King’s private home.
The palace’s visitor information names the Citizens’ Hall, Throne Room, Balcony Chamber, Mozes Hall and Tribunal among the spaces visitors can see. Check the current programme for any special exhibition and allow time to look closely at the architecture and artworks rather than treating this simply as a photo stop.
How much does admission cost?
On 12 September 2026, the official visit page listed adult admission at €13.50, students at €9, and ages 17 and under at €0. Dutch Museum Pass and ICOM admission were also listed at €0. Check eligibility and select the appropriate ticket for your visit.
For example, two adult admissions total €27, excluding any separately booked services. Admission includes an audio tour; availability applies. The I amsterdam City Card is not accepted, according to the palace FAQ. Our accommodation code HOSTELAMSTERDAM does not establish a palace ticket discount.
Should you book a guided tour or an ordinary ticket?
Start with the experience you want. An ordinary ticket gives you a self-paced visit. A guided group visit is a separate booking option on the official palace website. Check group requirements, availability and the total charge before making arrangements.
The earlier article promised two-to-five-hour skip-the-line packages and possible Nieuwe Kerk admission without identifying a provider. Those are not established benefits of a standard palace ticket. If you choose an independent package, ask who provides it, whether palace admission is included and what happens if the palace closes for a royal event.
When should you go, and how long should you allow?
Use the palace calendar for the date and opening hours. The palace says the schedule can change. Choose a ticket date and start time that fits your plans, and check again before setting out.
The visitor FAQ estimates an average visit at about one hour. Add your own travel and arrival time. Online tickets are not refundable, and the ticket desk takes debit or credit cards rather than cash.
What should you do with luggage?
The palace allows small bags up to 30 × 30 × 15 cm inside. Larger permitted items go in its free cloakroom, but large backpacks and suitcases cannot be stored there. Arrange these before arriving.
If your palace visit falls after hostel checkout, read our luggage information first. We do not offer luggage storage after checkout. The old article’s unrestricted storage promise should not be used to plan a departure-day visit.
Getting there and checking access
Our hostel is at Warmoesstraat 87, 1012 HZ Amsterdam; the palace is on Dam Square. Save the palace entrance in your route planner and check the route from our door. The earlier ten-minute estimate was not a verified door-to-door measurement.
The palace lists a lift and wheelchair-accessible toilets. Check its visitor information for your particular access needs. Those museum facilities do not establish accessibility at our hostel. Contact us separately about your accommodation requirements.
