Correction to the older illustration: its statement that smoking is prohibited everywhere overlooks the designated smoking terrace behind the bar. Dorms are non-smoking and the drug-use ban still applies on the terrace.
Our dorms are non-smoking. We have a designated smoking terrace at the back of the bar, and our drug-use ban applies throughout the hostel and bar, including cannabis. Ask our team to show you the permitted smoking area rather than assuming that any outdoor space is available for smoking.
Where is the smoking terrace?
Our Cloudbeds terms and house rules identify a smoking terrace at the back of the bar. Ask reception or the bar team how to reach it and whether it is open when you want to use it. No curfew at the hostel does not establish round-the-clock terrace access.
Keep smoking out of the dorms. An open window does not turn a bedroom into a smoking area. Follow the signs and staff directions, and avoid leaving cigarette ends or other rubbish behind.
Is cannabis allowed on the terrace?
No. Our house rules explicitly forbid drug use, including weed, hash, hallucinogens, mushrooms, cocaine and space cake. The smoking terrace is not an exception to that rule. The fact that you are staying in Amsterdam does not change our hostel policy.
If you are unsure whether something is permitted, ask our team before using it on the premises. This article describes our house rules; it does not establish what is permitted elsewhere in the city.
Is there a €50 smoking fine?
The earlier article stated a fixed €50 fine, but we have not confirmed that amount in the published Cloudbeds terms. Do not rely on it as a current fee or as permission to smoke indoors by paying a charge.
Our house rules say that failing to follow the rules can lead to immediate check-out, and they state a strict no-refund policy. Follow the instructions given at reception and ask us to clarify any charge or consequence you do not understand before booking.
What about vaping?
The published terms do not set out a separate vaping policy. Ask reception where, if anywhere, vaping is permitted. Do not assume that the lack of a separate paragraph means it is allowed in a bedroom, bathroom or indoor shared area.
What should you do if smoke is affecting your stay?
Tell our team where and when you noticed it so we can investigate. Our terms list a 24-hour team. Avoid confronting other guests yourself, and follow staff instructions if there is an alarm or an immediate concern.
For a smoke-related room requirement, contact us before booking and explain what you need. A non-smoking room rule does not establish a guarantee against every possible source of smoke or odour.
Do the visitor and noise rules still apply?
Yes. Our terms allow friends and visitors between 10:00 and 22:00; non-staying visitors must leave their ID at reception. They also ask guests to keep noise down after 22:00. Using the terrace does not override those rules or make it a late-night party space.
